Outreach Follow-Up Sequence
A structured follow-up cadence to maximize response rates from link building outreach
For SEO Manager
Why Follow-Ups Matter
Most link building outreach fails not because of a bad pitch, but because of no follow-up. Studies consistently show that 60-70% of positive responses come from the second or third touch, not the initial email.
The Follow-Up Sequence
Day 0: Initial Outreach
Send your personalized outreach email with a clear value proposition and call to action.
Day 3-4: First Follow-Up
- Keep it short (2-3 sentences)
- Reference your original email
- Add one new piece of value or context
- Example: “Just wanted to bump this up — I also noticed your article on [topic] that would be a great fit for a reciprocal link.”
Day 7-8: Second Follow-Up
- Try a slightly different angle
- Share a specific piece of content they could link to
- Keep the tone friendly and low-pressure
Day 14: Final Follow-Up
- Acknowledge this is your last message
- Restate the core value proposition in one sentence
- Leave the door open for future contact
Follow-Up Rules
- Never send more than 3 follow-ups — respect their inbox
- Space messages at least 3 days apart to avoid being annoying
- Stop immediately if they reply with a “no” or “not interested”
- Vary your send times — if the original was sent in the morning, try afternoon
- Track everything — log each touchpoint in Linkorite so you never double-contact someone
Measuring Success
- Track open rates and reply rates at each stage
- Identify which follow-up message generates the most responses
- Continuously refine your messaging based on what converts
